Ideation Sketches

These Ideation Sketches explore different forms of desk lamps, both spotlight lamps and light diffusers.

To get a bold yet elegant aesthetic, I choose a sage green color scheme with brass detailing.

The design I went forward with is on page 3, sketch 9

Desk Lamp Deconstruction

The deconstruction of this LED lamp helped me identify the internal components needed to make my design functional.

I chose a lamp that had a similar base to my design to ensure all the components would fit inside with enough wiggle room.

Key Takeaways

Once I decided to design a desk lamp that evenly distributes light, I looked up the most popular lamps currently on the market. The four lamps range from affordable (under $20) to more expensive (over $300).

This market analysis made me realize for my design, I wanted:

  • Small base

  • Flexible neck

  • LED light rod

  • Evenly distributed light

  • Ability to control dimness
